A Romantic Late Summer Engagement Session in Central Park, NYC
As a wedding photographer in New York, Central Park is obviously one of my favorite places for engagement photos. In late summer the trees are still lush and green, the evenings are filled with beautiful golden light, and somehow, even in the middle of Manhattan, you can find little pockets of quiet that feel miles away from the city.
For K&B's engagement session, we spent the afternoon exploring some of Central Park's prettiest corners, from winding pathways and stone staircases to the iconic Bow Bridge.
A Relaxed Engagement Session in Central Park
One of the things I love most about photographing engagement sessions in Central Park is how much variety we can get without having to travel very far. Every turn offers a different backdrop, whether it's a tree-lined pathway, an open grassy area, or one of the park's beautiful architectural details.
We started by wandering along the shaded paths, taking advantage of the greenery and soft light filtering through the trees. I always encourage my couples to spend some time walking together during their session. It's a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera, and it allows me to capture those natural interactions that make photographs feel personal.
From there, we made our way to one of the park's stone staircases, where we took a few more relaxed portraits before heading toward the water.
Golden Hour at Bow Bridge
As the sun began to get lower, we made our way toward Bow Bridge, one of Central Park's most recognizable and romantic locations.
The beautiful white cast-iron bridge is a classic NYC engagement photo spot for good reason. Surrounded by greenery, with glimpses of the Manhattan skyline peeking through the trees, it offers the perfect combination of city charm and natural beauty.
We captured a mix of gently posed portraits and more candid moments, including a few sweet photographs of K&B simply enjoying being together. I especially loved the images of them leaning against the bridge, framed by the trees and the soft evening light.
Engagement Photos That Feel Like You
My approach to engagement photography is always a balance of thoughtful direction and genuine moments. I'll help guide you into poses that feel natural and flattering, but I also want to leave room for you to laugh, move around, and interact with each other.
K&B's session was a perfect example of that balance. From walking hand in hand beneath the trees to stealing a kiss on the steps, their photographs feel relaxed and romantic without being overly posed.
I also loved their outfit choices. Her white midi dress felt effortlessly bridal without being too formal, while his light blue button-down and navy trousers complemented the greenery of the park beautifully.
Planning Your Own Central Park Engagement Session
If you're considering Central Park for your engagement photos, I recommend scheduling your session for late afternoon or early evening, especially during the warmer months. The light is softer, and the golden hour glow coming through the trees can be absolutely beautiful.
Central Park is also a wonderful option for couples who want a mix of natural scenery and classic New York City architecture. With so many beautiful locations within walking distance, we can create a gallery that feels varied while still telling one cohesive story.
Whether you're planning a Central Park engagement session, a surprise proposal, or simply want photographs together in your favorite part of NYC, I'd love to help you create something that feels like you.
