A Colorful Waterfront Wedding at The Mansion at West Sayville
Ariel and Christian’s wedding at The Mansion at West Sayville was colorful, joyful, and full of personality from beginning to end. Set along the water on Long Island, the venue gave us such a beautiful mix of classic architecture, gardens, open lawn, and waterfront views to work with throughout the day.
The morning started with all of the little details that helped set the tone for the wedding. Ariel’s floral invitation suite was paired with soft pink accents, vintage-inspired stamps, gold jewelry, and her white Jimmy Choo heels. I always love photographing the details together because they give such a good sense of the overall style of the day before everything begins moving.
Wedding Portraits at The Mansion at West Sayville
One of my favorite things about The Mansion at West Sayville is how much variety there is without having to leave the property. The historic buildings and greenery gave us a softer, more romantic backdrop for Ariel’s bridal portraits and their first look, while the waterfront was perfect for portraits later in the evening.
Ariel and Christian chose to do a first look before the ceremony, which gave us time for portraits together while the day was still quiet. I love a first look not only because it gives couples a few private minutes together, but because it also creates more flexibility in the photography timeline and allows us to explore more of the property without feeling rushed.
An Outdoor Long Island Wedding Ceremony
Their ceremony took place outside on the lawn, surrounded by vibrant florals in shades of pink, coral, and white. The late-afternoon light coming through the trees made the entire ceremony feel warm and inviting.
After saying their vows, Ariel and Christian walked back down the aisle together while their friends and family celebrated around them. Those just-married moments are always some of my favorites to photograph because there is so much genuine energy and emotion happening all at once.
Sunset Wedding Photos by the Water
Later in the day, we headed toward the marina for another round of portraits as the light became softer. The Mansion at West Sayville sits right along the Great South Bay, so it is such a beautiful location for couples who want water views without losing the traditional estate feel.
We kept these portraits relaxed and gave Ariel and Christian room to simply enjoy being together. Some of my favorite images from the day came from this part of the evening, especially the quiet photographs of the two of them sitting together by the dock as the sky began to change.
A Reception Full of Emotion and Dancing
Once the reception started, the energy shifted completely. There were emotional family moments, plenty of dancing, and so much personality from their guests. One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was Christian’s dance with his mother, followed by a reception that quickly turned into a full dance floor.
Ariel also changed into a second look for the reception, which gave us the perfect excuse to step outside for a few more editorial portraits after dark. I love building a wedding gallery that includes both the polished portraits and the less planned moments in between. The final result feels much more like the full experience of the day rather than a collection of posed photographs.
Ariel and Christian’s wedding was such a beautiful example of how The Mansion at West Sayville can feel classic and elegant while still leaving plenty of room for color, personality, and a really fun celebration.
If you’re planning a wedding at The Mansion at West Sayville or elsewhere on Long Island and are looking for photography that blends editorial portraits with the real moments happening throughout your day, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
Film Photography at The Mansion at West Sayville
Alongside their digital gallery, I photographed parts of Ariel and Christian’s wedding on both 35mm and medium format film. I love incorporating film into a wedding day because it brings a slightly different feeling to the final gallery. The softer tones, natural grain, and slower pace of shooting complement the digital images without making the day feel overly styled.
I used 35mm for some of the more candid, in-between moments throughout the day, while medium format was perfect for portraits and details where I wanted something a little more intentional and refined. The larger negative creates such beautiful depth and softness, especially in good natural light.
